Since 2024, 3n Strategy - the leading SAP anlaytics, reporting and planning partner - has been charting and documenting the development of People Intelligence in SAP Business Data Cloud.
Last summer, we spoke with SAP’s Søren Højby (Senior Director of Product Management, SAP SuccessFactors) about the SAP People Intelligence product as it was getting ready to be used by select 'early adopters' from the SAP SuccessFactors customer ecosystem.
Eight months later, for 3n Strategy's 'Festival Of People Analytics 2026', we invited Søren back to give us the latest update on the SAP People Intelligence product, providing the clearest view yet of where the product is heading - and what organisations need to do next who are intending to use it in 2026.

Updates to SAP People Intelligence in 2026

Over the past year, SAP People Intelligence has moved beyond early positioning into a more defined product direction - centred on SAP Business Data Cloud (BDC).
At its core, People Intelligence is no longer just about reporting.
It introduces a new operating model for HR data, built on:
- Insight Apps – Pre-built, decision-focused analytics experiences
- Data Products – Structured, reusable datasets designed for scale and governance
- Business Data Cloud – The foundation enabling integration across SAP and non-SAP data
This marks a clear departure from traditional Workforce Analytics and other HR reporting approaches.
Instead of building reports on top of HR data, organisations will need to think in terms of data design, productisation, and ownership.
Why This Matters for SuccessFactors Customers
If you're currently using Workforce Analytics or planning your future reporting strategy, this shift changes the conversation entirely.
The key takeaway from SAP’s latest updates is:
People Intelligence is not a like-for-like upgrade.
It introduces new requirements around:
- Defining metrics and business logic upfront
- Structuring data products before reporting begins
- Establishing governance and ownership models
- Aligning HR, IT, and analytics teams earlier in the process
For many organisations, this means that planning and blueprinting will be critical before any technical implementation begins.
Those who treat this as a simple migration risk delays, rework, or underutilisation of the platform.
